WSJ article on music videos: "The Download Divide"
"Videos are finally generating money. So why are they looking cheaper?"
full article here.
pretty mediocre article imho. (what: no antville/antcast in the "new ways to watch music videos" box?! pshaw...)
Yes, plenty of facts but not the clearest analysis. I think that a) the viral nature of sharing b) reasonably good quality digital video on the internet is basically the reason here.
I also imagine that work like Spike Jonze's video for Fatboy Slim's Praise You - lo-fi, dirt cheap but one great idea in concept and execution - has perforated the accepted aesthetic bounds of music video. At least that's what I hope 'cos mine are really rough
yeah that article kinda fizzled, didn't it? Could have used more titty rockets.
. . .
Okay back to sincerity: I do recommend Mariah's "Say Somethin'" by Paul Hunter. It's quite a fresh vid, great visual aesthetic, and the only song by hers in a while that I've really liked or loved (which I do - God bless the Neptunes). don't think I'll post it though.
en.wikipedia.org has a list of the most expensive music videos.
