Radical Friend have been making videos since at least 2005
Danakil, Megaforce, Special Problems since 2007 or 2008, at least
also: Danakil is signed with Wanda which is kind of a big prodco. in France
         
aawards: did you work from an excel file? if yes, could you upload, say to google docs? that pdf on scribd is kinda hard to figure out...
         
on directors: would be good to avoid double nominations in the three director categories (they derive from inherent ambiguity/overlap that nothing can be done about now). say: keep megaforce in best of year only, danakil in best new only, k phillips in unknown/unsigned only, and add in runners up accordingly.
         
on stuffing/unlikelies (without offence to anyone, but...):
- teenagers in tokyo in cinematography?
- presets' if i know you in choreography, definitely, but in best of year?

otherwise, in general, seems an ok list of finalists, but a "robbed!" goes out to hickey underworld, alma har'el (specially for the jack penate vid), and eric wareheim.
one other thing: there were so many amazing animated videos, seems a genre that could merit a whole separate awards thing...
         
teenagers in tokyo are worhty of a runner-up nomination in cinematography, stuffing or no stuffing. same goes for metal on metal in the most fun category.

regarding new & unsigned directors, kayser_sauze seems to be right after all.
         
my 2 cents:

On Best new director - think of it like the Grammies. Unless someone got nominated the year before for best new director - let them be declared new in their breakout year. Megaforce did 1 or 2 videos last year, but this year they really "Arrived." Plus, enough people that voted assumed they were new.

Unknown/Unsigned: Okay, Danakil may be signed to a French company - but is she signed in the US? Isn't she still unknown? At least to the people who voted for her?

And for "one director per category" - I think the problem is people didn't know who was what and so just assumed. In theory, we should have laid out rules like "Megaforce is eligible for ______ but not _______." As it is, I'm not sure if it's fair to rob them of the chance to win either one. You can be new and the best, right?

msm, wildswan, Gowap all voted for The Presets as best of the year. Gowap is a little fishy; but the other two are reliable antvillers. The whole category didn't pan out well; only 1 video got more than 2 solid votes.

There's actually 9 videos that could in theory be up there. The five plus:

my name is legion:
Metal on Metal is basically 2 real votes plus 3 votes from people who have never voted before. That seems fishy, especially compared to 4 solid votes for Lily Allen, Kasabian, Tiga, etc. Justice/Lenny Kravitz got 3 solid votes, but that's not enough to make the cut.

So - what to do about the directors? Progosk, you want to make the call?
         
My thoughts: for best of year I count four votes for "Hickey Underworld" but only three votes for "Presets" and three for "Poni Hoax." Personally I'd like to see Hickey Underwold make it into the best of because it was one of the few videos this year with a near unanimous antville consensus. Also if you're concerned about ballot stuffing "Disco Stick," "Bob.K" and myself all check out as regular antville posters, "commishme" is a new poster but one new poster is not the same thing as a director twittering to their friends to vote. If I had to choose one of the three vote videos to knock out of the running it'd be the Presets video.

*update* My bad, after double checking I see that I was misinterpreting the google search results. "Bob.K" and "Disco Stick" are new posters, though personally I would keep their votes. After all Bob went to the trouble of linking all of his, seems like an antviller to me. Any one else got an opinion?
         
I don't think I'm reading the scribd thing right... The top 4-5 voted on is the Finalists at the top? And below that is a list of all the votes for each category? But that can't be right because just as an example, Flair - "Trucker's Delight" seemed to get the most votes for Best Animated, but it's not under Finalists. So someone explain to me what I'm missing.
         
otc: the thought is that the first-time posters are actually duplicate accounts and trying to vote twice. Or it's a director or company voting for themselves.

Now I see the Hickey Underworld issue - it got 2 real votes and 2 first-timers votes. Half in "The Hickey Underworld" and half in "Hickey Underworld." Makes sense, should be thrown in.

your good twin: The Animated category was basically whoever got 4 votes. Flairs got 3 votes, 1 "small" vote (which shouldn't really count, but is thrown on the grid); and then 4 votes from first time posters. How do we know those 4 votes aren't the work of Jeremie Perin?

But.... there are 4 slots, so maybe it should go in.

final thoughts: leaving nomination list as is; adding Flairs to best animation. For the best/new/unknown director - just letting people's nominations stand as they had it.

I assumed it was solidly 'in' from my skimming, as were lots of other things. I also didn't realize some voters were lesser than others.
         
I'm finding it strange that a web 2.0 site like this is taking such pains to create a hierarchy of voter importance (and even assuming that certain videos should just, you know, be in there no matter what). I can understand the ballot-stuffing concern, but isn't that just kind of something that goes with the territory?
